TMR29 Artist Spotlight: Dawes

Written by on June 1, 2025

Dawes is a Los Angeles-based band whose sound is steeped in California folk-rock tradition, but whose lyrics and musical evolution continue to transcend time and place. Formed in 2009 by brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, Dawes emerged with the warmth and wisdom of a Laurel Canyon revival, drawing from influences like Jackson Browne and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Over the years, their sound has matured—adding new sonic layers while retaining their signature introspection and emotional clarity.

From the heartfelt storytelling of North Hills to the expansive ambition of albums like Passwords and Good Luck with Whatever, Dawes has consistently delivered songs that are both personal and universal. Themes of self-discovery, political reflection, love, loss, and existential curiosity pulse through their catalog. What sets them apart is their ability to blend lyrical intimacy with rich instrumentation, creating records that feel as cinematic as they are confessional.

With Taylor Goldsmith’s soul-baring voice at the helm and a band of top-tier musicians behind him, Dawes has grown into one of the most respected and enduring acts in contemporary Americana rock. Their live shows, often described as spiritual and electric, are testaments to a band that has never stopped asking questions—or chasing the perfect song.

We are so excited to have Dawes in TMR29’s lineup! Make sure to go check them out June 6th @ Burress Injury Law Main Stage @ 9pm!
