Shiner Rising Star Week 2: Gas Monkey

This Thursday, August 4th, marks the second week of the 2016 #ShinerRisingStar competition! Twenty four bands will be competing for a record deal with independent label Shiner Records.

The Matt Nix Band is an exciting new group out of the Fort Worth area, whose influences include Zane Williams, Sean McConnell, and The Rusty Brothers. The band was formed by teacher and coach Matt Nix when one of his students suggested to him that he should pursue a career in music. The Matt Nix Band is a band on the rise and is excited about what this next year has in store.
Melissa Brooke is a 21 year old singer-songwriter from Crowley, TX just outside of Ft. Worth. She has spent the past few years performing around South Texas and opening for acts such as Josh Abbott Band, Pear Ratz, Pat Green, Turnpike Troubadours and more. Melissa released 3 singles this year to Texas Radio with all placing in the top 50 on the Texas Music Charts.
Tin & Tonic is an American band that takes its cue from multiple genres including (but not limited to) Blues , Americana, and Outlaw Country. The band’s leader, the ever-charismatic Tin Man Travis, an accomplished guitarist and songwriter of more than 15 years. Travis is a true honky-tonk all-star who lays down an awe-inspiring live show. Their music is built around supreme musicianship with a foundation of authenticity, grit, and heart.
Things will be getting started at 8:00 PM at the Gas Monkey (10261 Technology Blvd E, Dallas, TX 75220). The artist advancing to the second round will be announced at 9AM on Friday August 5th on Cowboys and Indians Magazine’s Facebook page. Come out and get a dose of Texas music!
