Matt “The Cat” Hillyer
Listen to a Matt Hillyer album, or catch one of his shows, and you’ll hear an artist in his element, pushing a lifetime of musical influences to the limit yet always sounding authentically like himself. “I’ve always tried to mix up styles that I love,” says Hillyer, the veteran singer-songwriter whose latest record, Bright Skyline, showcases a range fine-tuned over three decades playing Texas dance halls and listening rooms. If Matt Hillyer’s voice sounds familiar, it should. For 23 years, he fronted legendary honky-tonk band Eleven Hundred Springs, touring the world and releasing more than a dozen albums before the band ended in 2021. However, the end of that band is in no way the end of his musical journey. Hillyer continues to release music and keep a full calendar of live shows. Hillyer is also no stranger to the radio airwaves. For 6 years he and Steve Berg hosted the “Country Jam Radio Show” weekly on 95.3 KHYI bringing the biggest names in Texas and Americana music to the airwaves live every week. He can now be heard Monday through Friday from noon to two o’clock hosting the “Texas Afternoons” show on 95.3 the Range. He has always considered the Range family and is right at home on the 95.3 airwaves.
