“Choose a station, any station. Listen for a while and make a count of the beer, truck, and “country” girl references. Now, pray for some real country music to come and cleanse your soul, and ears.
If you’re looking for cookie cutter, frat boy, party pop country, move along people. This ain’t your little sister’s music. Roger Cowan brings the attitude and genuineness back to his own brand of Texas country.
In a world where country purists are losing their legends, there are a few shining hopes that remember when country was real. One of those is Roger Cowan. Born in Huntsville, Tx and raised between East Texas and South Louisiana, Roger watched the struggle folks went through every day just to survive. There were no “pasture parties” and “keg-fueled sing-alongs.” Not everyone with a guitar and a tattoo claimed to be an outlaw. These were days when being a rebel meant something. When a man was a man, and a woman was a woman.
Just listening to the variety of styles on Roger’s latest album, HickadelicSwampyTonk, will give you an idea of the diversity of influences Roger Cowan pulls from. One of the first songs he can remember learning the words to was the Willie and Ray Charles hit “Seven Spanish Angels.” From those early days singing along to the family radio, to the stage today, Roger stills gives everything he’s got for every person in the crowd. Attend one show, and you’ll never be the same. An electric and personable performer, Roger makes everyone feel like part of the show. If you enjoy the music of Jason Boland, Waylon Jennings, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, you’ll enjoy the stylings a Roger Cowan show has to offer. So, kick that saccharine-sweet, mass produced drivel to the curb, and lay your ears into some pure Texas country attitude.”
