Band Bio:
The LDJ Band was formed in early 2013. It all started with Larry Sumpter and Dan Schwein playing in the church worship band. They quickly realized they not only shared a passion to play for Christ but also country music….especially the classics, Texas/Red Dirt, and of course George Strait! In the beginning, everyone just called them The Larry & Dan Band. Eventually, they were able to convince their metal head buddy Jef Empringham to come over to the country side and at that point they became The LDJ Band. After playing a short stint of coffee shops and small restaurants it was apparent they had found something special and began to grow the band. Veteran country/bluegrass bass player Rob Wright was added to the group. In their short time together as a band, they have developed their own unique sound and style. I think Brett Dillon (KHYI 95.3 The Range) said it best when he labeled them “Hillbilly Funk.” Though they still love to play the classic country, rock, and Texas/Red Dirt songs at every show, their true passion is performing their originals every chance they get. They have already written over a dozen songs and continue to add more. They have recently added rock/blues phenom Jonny Lurie on lead guitar. He’s not only an amazing talent but also adds a sound/style that has gained The LDJ Band increased popularity. They have a mission to write and create fun music people can relate to while also playing the songs they grew up loving. If you like redneck, foot stompin’, traditional country music with a touch of Southern rock we are your band!
